About

Vidyuth Pasumarthi

Vidyuth Pasumarthi was introduced to the classical dance form at the age of 6 by his mother, a dancer and founder of Srividya Dance school. From 2019, he continued his training in Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Smt. Viraja and Sri.Shyamjith Kiran, who instilled in him a passion for dance and provided him a strong foundation.

Over many summers, winters and countless zoom sessions, Vidyuth and his teachers’ bond grew to be beyond that of a teacher and student. While Shyam has become a cherished, respected and loving “Anna” or older brother, Viraja became the watchful, protective and affectionate “Akka” or older sister.

Vidyuth Pasumarthi has performed at various dance productions, temple/cultural events and charity fundraisers both nationally and internationally, including the annual Cleveland Thyagaraja Aaradhana and with the acclaimed Sivapadam dance troupe. He is very involved in the Bay area dance and music community, volunteering at events, and winning many prizes in dance competitions. As Vidyuth slowly grows, and learns, he hopes to contribute to Shyamjith and Viraja’s dance company Tridha’s ever increasing bharatantyam presence in India, the US and beyond. As part of the Tridha team, Vidyuth performed as one of the main lead characters in a modern Bharatnatyam production “Once upon a time” inspired by Disney stories.

Vidyuth is also pursuing learning the mridangam (percussion) from Guru Ravindrabharathy Sridharan, a very highly accomplished teacher and founder of Nadopasana Academy of Fine Arts. This learning has also supplemented his approach to dance by understanding the various aspects of jathi/ talam (rhythmic pattern) compositions.

As an incoming 10th grader, Vidyuth follows his passions in his school’s FBLA and Science Olympiad clubs. He is very active in his school leadership and volunteering as part of his school’s elected class cabinet. Vidyuth is an active and diligent teaching assistant in Sri vidya Dance School. Outside school, He also enjoys learning languages (Spanish, Sanskrit, and Telugu), travelling, hiking, and hanging out with his family especially his brother, Akshay.

Viraja & Shyamjith Kiran are a dynamic dance couple trained from the illustrious Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai. Both of them have previously been a part of the Kalakshetra repertory company taking up major roles and also taught as part time faculty at their alma mater. They have had the rich experience of working with legends in their field like the Dhananjayans and Leela Samson.

The duo has also been trained in Kathakali under their guru Sadanam Balakrishnan. Involvement with these gurus, Kalakshetra and their independent pursuits has enabled them to perform at various prestigious venues world over. Training in Yoga and Kalaripayattu has been an important factor in their understanding of not just the physicality of the human form but also the intellect. Some of their critically acclaimed works include, Pareekshana, Mudivil Oru Aarambam, Svam, Aham, Rekha, Eeram and Samaagati.
